Team Captain
Gliding is my life-long passion. I am dedicated to mastering all aspects of the sport and give back to gliding the same time and dedication all my instructors and coaches have given to me.
From the day when my dad took me to Southern Cross Gliding Club at Camden for a glider joy flight, on a hot summer’s day in November 1972, I was hooked, and I have not looked back. That day paved the way for my career in aviation, firstly as an aeronautical engineer and culminating as a Boeing 777 Captain flying for several international airlines, including Singapore Airlines. I retired from commercial flying in 2012 with over 20,000 hours and now work as an Inspector for CASA
My gliding career has taken me to many places around the world and established life-long friendships. I have flown in two World Championships Bayreuth Germany, and Borlange Sweden. I have been National Champion several times. I actively instruct, coach and fly tugs at Kingaroy Soaring Club.
Narromine holds a special place in my heart. This is where I completed my first cross-country flights in a Mucha almost 50 years ago. I achieved most of my gliding certificates and set three national records in Narromine. It has always been a dream for me to be part of the Australian national team at a World Gliding Championship in Narromine.
I look forward to assisting our Aussie team achieve the best possible result – a podium position.
