Hometown:  Melbourne
Glider:  ASW20C

How did you get started in gliding?  I initially started flying powered fixed wing when I was only 15 years old. Went along the powered flying route before wanting to try something more challenging.  In 2013, I attended a hang gliding course where I had my first experiences of gliding which I loved! I hang glided for a few years before moving onto sailplanes in 2019.

Who have been your most significant mentors or influences in gliding?  Tobi Geiger. We both fly at the same club here in Benalla. His drive to use all of the day, launching as early as possible in addition to the discipline displayed while flying are my two take away points.
Some competitiveness with a fellow club member can be very helpful for progression.

What are some of the major competitions you’ve participated in, and how did you perform? I’ve only participated in a handful on competitions.
2022 Australian Nationals – 2nd place in Club class
2021 Australian Nationals – 4th place in Sports class
2021 VSA State Championship – 3rd place in Standard/15m class
2021 Horsham Week – 3rd place in Standard/15m class

What’s your training routine like? How will you prepare for the upcoming competition? Training over the winter period does make it more difficult due to having less soarable conditions. I plan to fly as much as possible to stay current while ensuring all of my equipment is up to standard. Preparation is more than just the flying.

What are your goals / aims for the upcoming competition at Narromine? Number one is to have fun! Closely followed by performing my best and continual improvement from my experiences.

How does it feel to be representing Australia on home soil, and at Narromine? Amazing! I am honoured to be representing Australia, and to be doing it in our own country just adds to that level of pride.

What’s something interesting most people don’t know about you? Back in my teenager years, I was an avid skateboarder.

What advice would they give to someone interested in getting involved in gliding? Go to your local gliding club and go for a flight! You can do as much research as you want, but it’s not until you experience the real thing that you see what it is all about! The freedom. The adventure.
