The Australian Master Ranking list is a compilation of Australian Pilots’ scores taken from National competitions (and eligible overseas gliding competitions) over the two years ‘competition selection cycle’. It is used to select pilots to represent Australia at WGCs that are run every 2 years. The selection cycle ceases after the last eligible competition prior to a WGC being held.
The ranking is calculated using the pilots’ scores from eligible Competitions which are:
A pilot’s ranking is calculated by adding their best 60% score for the most recent competition year and their best 40% score in any class from the previous year. The maximum ranking score is therefore 100 points – with 40 coming from the 40% event and 60 coming from the 60% event.
E.g. WGC is held in 2022. Jo Bloggs gets a score of 85% of winners score in Jan 2021 and 93% of winners score in Jan 2022. His ranking percentage is therefore (85%x40) + (93%x60) = 89.8
