Hometown: RIDDELLS CREEK
Glider: Ventus 2ax
How did you get started in gliding? I grew up on gliding fields as both my mum and dad were into gliding.
Who have been your most significant mentors or influences in gliding? One of my instructors back in Germany has been my most influential mentor. Flying in competition had a big influence in my gliding as I learnt more in my first competition than I did in years flying at my local airfield.
What are some of the major competitions you’ve participated in, and how did you perform? I flew European and World championships at Jihlava (Czech Republic), Musbach (Germany), Prievidza (Slovakia), Chaves (Argentina) and Pociunai (Lithuania) in Club or Standard Class. My best result to date was a second place in club class in Argentina in 2013.
What’s your training routine like? How will you prepare for the upcoming competition? I try to fly as far a distance and time as I can on my regular weekend or holiday flying to build up stamina. On shorter days (spring and autumn) my focus is on setting myself tasks and complete them as fast as possible and ideally with others from my club flying the same tasks. I will continue to do that in the run-up to Narromine and complement it with flying the sports class Nationals in Kingaroy.
What are your goals / aims for the upcoming competition at Narromine? Fly confidently, aim for a good result and at all times fly safely.
How does it feel to be representing Australia on home soil, and at Narromine? Very happy and proud to finally represent Australia in Australia. I have great memories of flying competitions at Narromine and very much look forward to adding another great comp there.
What’s something interesting most people don’t know about you? I like to spend time in remote places without people around.
What advice would they give to someone interested in getting involved in gliding? Gliding gives you as much as you put in. Put in a lot and it will reward you with a life-long passion and many exciting moments and experiences that will shape your life.
