Glider Accidents – Dec 2025
It is with deep sadness that Gliding Australia advises of two serious gliding accidents involving fatalities over recent days.
On Sunday 28 December 2025, a fatal accident occurred near Tunbridge Airfield in Tasmania involving a two-seat training glider during the launch phase. An air experience flight student tragically lost their life, and the instructor sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital. Members of the Soaring Club of Tasmania provided immediate assistance until emergency services arrived.
Regrettably, late Monday 29 December 2025, Gliding Australia was notified of a second fatal gliding accident near Narrogin in Western Australia, involving a single-seat glider that outlanded near Narrogin. Emergency services and police are in attendance. At this time, next of kin notifications are still in progress and information remains limited.
Gliding Australia extends its sincere condolences to the families and friends of those affected, as well as to the members of the clubs involved and the wider gliding and aviation community.
Out of respect for those impacted, and while official investigations are underway, we ask members to refrain from speculation and public commentary. Further verified information will be shared when appropriate.
